Twelve Days of Quilting – Day 2 !

It looks like a lot of you are interested in our Twelve Days of Quilting event !!  Yeah !!  Keep coming to the blog to see what is happening in the shop and I will try to keep you up to date!

We finally did a little decorating in the shop yesterday.  I have always loved the old silver Christmas trees – you know the ones that were around in the 50′s and 60′s that we would use color-wheels on? That is the kind of tree I grew up with!  So, I finally found a good deal on one this summer and bought it for the shop!  I was so excited!  I went out and bought great bright pastel ornaments for it – just like we used to use in magenta, lime, aqua blue etc.  and started really researching where I could find a color-wheel light for it.  The light was going to cost me more than the silly tree did based on what I was seeing on ebay!  Plus, I wasn’t too comfortable with the vintage electric cords, quite frankly, from back in the day when things were not even UL listed for safety!

Well, I had been building up this grand vision in my head for this tree.  Now mind you, the tree was stated to be 4 feet.  I had in mind I would put it on the table up front in the store by the batiks.  What you have to understand, however, was that 4 feet grew to 7 feet in my minds eye!  I had this image in my head of this grandious tree that filled the whole space on that table piled with shimmering ornaments and the colored lights shining on it.  Well, I must say, I was a little disappointed in the total effect after we got it all up!  4 feet is definetly NOT  7 feet, and the colored spotlights  my husband rigged up from the ceiling (instead of a $100 vintage color wheel!) just were not having the same effect as in my imagination!

See what you think!  I actually think the tree is pretty nice, and the colors look great in the shop and the lights actually do add sparkle, even if it is subtle sparkle.  It just was not what I had built this tree up to be!  Ah, the best laid imagination…….. but it is our own retro Christmas tree!

I love your Christmas tree! I had my Grandmothers tree like that for years and my girls clamed it as their tree , so every Christmas they woud put in up in one of their bedrooms and decorated it, Unforturately we did not have the color wheel that went with it either.

Your tree gives the store a lot of sparkle. I can wait to come in and see it and all the other decorations.

    Good job !!!!
